It’s time to answer some of our most frequently heard questions. Please feel free to submit your questions to your instructor for inclusion in future blogs!

There’s so much going on at Knollwood.

How do I stay informed with all the events?

Your best source of information is our fabulous staff of admins at the front desk. Come on in and talk to the ladies who know about all the upcoming events, show entries, schedule updates and used clothing. They are even up to date on school horse birthdays!

The brilliant admins can help you sign up for upcoming events, help you complete entry forms, and even help with fit of used clothing.

They’re friendly, informed, and know all about Knollwood.

Even if the admin is away from the desk, the lounge is a wealth of information. We have a bulletin board with info galore, and we currently have the spring show schedule taking up an entire wall.

Your instructor tries to inform all students of all the fun coming up, too.

You can also catch up from the comfort of your own home.

You’re reading the blog, so you already know about that.

We’re active on social media, and try to post all our events there.

My rider just started at Knollwood.

How does my Knollwood Kid get more involved?

The best way to dive into being a Knollwood Kid is to join the Knollwood Knockouts.

The Knockouts are our 27 year old youth group that’s affiliated with the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association.

Knockouts get to know each other at Parents’ Night Out events throughout the year. Suitable for horse kids of all ages, these nights allow the kids to enjoy non riding activities at the farm with the Knockout officers and board members. The parties include dinner, games, and fun activities.

Knockouts also participate in community and charitable events.

This Saturday, the club is cleaning up Oakwood and Nagawicka Roads, and we’re looking for as many participants as we can get. The activity starts at 1:00 PM and will last until around 2:30 PM. We also host a street clean up in the Fall.

The Knockouts run the Knollwood academy shows which are the their biggest fundraisers of the year. The club runs the concession stand, the gift baskets, and the 50/50 raffle. Our shows host close to 100 riders, and they take a small army of volunteers to make them run smoothly.

We’re always looking for parent help, too!

The Knockouts also host an annual car wash at the Piggly Wiggly in Hartland. This year we’re washing cars on July 19. It’s our most entertaining fundraiser of the year.

The club is proud of its annual awards banquet.  The Knollwood community gathers each January to celebrate our high point award winners for both in-barn and out of barn shows.

We enjoy social time, dinner, and our awards program before we finish the night with a slide show, a DJ and dancing.

The Knockouts also make donations to important causes. We’ve donated to the Honor Flight, the American Heart Association, the Saddleseat World Cup and support for hurricane victims and trainers battling cancer. We're proud of our club, and all that it's achieved.

Does the lesson schedule change for summer?

With the addition of Summer Riding School, we do make some changes for the summer.

We take a break from our Welcome to Knollwood program to lighten the load for our beginner horses who do a lot of camp work.

We slow down our Sunday mini camp program, but we DO still offer this important entry point.

Our private lessons remain the same.

My Knollwood Kid has been riding for a year or so. How does the helper program work?

Helpers are an integral part of our lesson program. Interested riders can learn more about horse care, work ethic, and helping others in our helper program.

Becoming a helper at Knollwood is a privilege reserved for hard-working, kind, dedicated horse kids who are at least 10 years of age.

The best way to become a helper is to come early to your lesson and get your own horse ready, and then take care of your horse after the lesson.  Respect for your horse is the best way to be considered for the role.

If you’d like to investigate being considered to be a helper, please reach out to your instructor who will pass the info on to Brenda, who is our helper scheduler.

Most helpers start assisting at mini camps and tiny tot camps, as the work load is lower than for a full shift of weekly helping.

Helpers must be able to commit to a consistent day of the week, and be reliable. We count on our helper staff to assist with new riders, and to keep our priceless horses well cared for.

Our helper program offers wonderful opportunities to learn more about horses, horse care, and how a barn works. Helpers also learn how to prioritize, how to manage time, and how to work hard. Really hard.
