Everyone loves the Oshkosh Summer Classic.

The show is held in a park, the arena is basically outdoor with a roof and hospitality on the sides, the barns are open, and the bouncy house is the center of horse kid life.

Team Knollwood enjoyed this summer classic, and we made some beautiful memories.

3 Generations of Honkamps

Oshkosh felt like a family reunion of the Honkamp clan.

Matriarch Susan was in attendance to see the family succeed in the show ring. Her daughter Kerry showed her beautiful 5 gaited horse Jade while granddaughter #1 Payton showed pleasure horse extraordinaire Henry in show pleasure, and Granddaughter #2 and Marquette student Tatum showed her park horse Uno to the championship.

Not to be outdone, Kerry’s daughter and Susan’s granddaughter #3 showed beloved lesson horse Thomas in the academy division, and met her goal of getting her diagonals all by herself. She even rode to a 3rd place ribbon in the championship.

Love of horses definitely run in the Honkamp family!

Grownups Get Their Turn

The Oshkosh show features a chance for our adult amateur riders to enjoy a weekend of show fun.

Tancy showed her beautiful new gaited horse Bently to great success. This dynamic team won both their qualifier and championship, and had a ball doing it.

These two are going to be a blast to watch!

Lifelong Saddlebred lover Jane is having a dream season showing Eli in the Country Pleasure division. Eli loves showing, and Jane loves showing, and their enthusiasm can hardly be overstated.

Kim and Allison enjoyed a ‘home show’ for them. Living close to Oshkosh, our mother daughter team got to sleep in their own beds. Allison even came super early on Saturday to help with the academy performance.

Kim showed Jaydee with great success in the single bit division, while Allison helped Arthur continue to develop into a mature, confident show horse.

Young Horses Showcased

Payton and Natalie had a chance to show the horses they’ve been working with under the watchful eyes of Scott.

Payton showed Scott and Carol’s colt Maui in the Park Pleasure classic, and he showed well in his first class ever.

Payton also showed her horse Bennett , and he was a very good boy at the show.

Natalie showed Jackie in the walk and trot training class, and the progress was evident.

The young horses will come home to enjoy some hands on time with Scott as he helps Payton and Natalie learn more about training young horses.

New Equitation Stars

First year equitation riders Charlotte and Molly made the trip to Oshkosh to get some experience at the friendly show.

Both Knollwood Kids rode great, and gained important experience of riding patterns in competition.

Charlotte and Molly are on their way to becoming equitation stars.

Academy Adventures

Nine Knollwood Kids made the trip to compete in the packed Oshkosh academy division. The Saturday morning performance featured wonderful competition, some split classes, and an enthusiastic crowd.

One of our favorite stories of the weekend was the battle of the Senn sisters.

Dylan and Reagan Senn both compete in the 13 and under walk, trot, and canter academy division. It’s Reagan’s first year out of the walk and trot division, and she has dreamed of beating her talented older sister.

Through a series of horse show circumstances, Reagan DID finish one place above her sister in their horsemanship class, but the feat was not repeated. Dilly actually finished her day winning the academy championship on superstar Frito.

Don’t worry, Mom Chris reported that the Senn sisters were giggling all the way home.

We had riders with experience ranging from 8 year old Vienna to experienced academy stars who are heading to college next year.

Our riders all rode strong performances, and we couldn’t be more proud of their progress.

Our walk and trot riders who spent the week before the show at their academy camp were especially on task, and used the big arena like they lived there.

Big shout out to Harlow, Sammy, and Vienna on their impressive performances.
