Summerfun is here!

Knollwood Farm is excited, because the Summerfun Horse Show is starting this Wednesday, July 20 at State Fair Park in West Allis.  It’s a large Saddlebred show sponsored by the American Saddlebred Association of Wisconsin (ASAW), which will feature horses and riders from all over the Midwest.

We at Knollwood consider this our ‘home show’ after traveling to shows far AWAY from home!  Some of the show horses just returned on Sunday  from the warm Kentucky summer weather  at the Lexington Junior League show, and 30 plus horses will ship off to State Fair Park on Tuesday for Summerfun. Horses and riders will compete in a wide variety of classes thru Saturday night in pleasure, performance and equitation for both young horses and those more experienced in the ring.

This is a great chance to witness the strength of our lesson program as well.  Knollwood will have 15 riders who progressed through our riding school show at the ‘A’ level this weekend in front of the home crowd. 

Many of these riders rode at previous Summerfun shows in the academy division.  We will bring seven lesson horses and 11 riders for the academy classes to be held at the Saturday morning performance at 10:00 AM. The last class of the morning (after the academy championships) will be the pleasure equitation championship in which Knollwood could have as many as six riders competing for the title.  It should be quite a battle!

Come watch these current and future show ring stars, and stay for two events after the Saturday morning performance:

• The Knollwood Knockouts, our youth group affiliated with the American Saddlebred Association’s Youth Foundation, are sponsoring an ice cream social immediately after the Saturday morning performance.  This will take place in the Dairy Barn directly across from the Coliseum.

• At the same time, members of the Knockouts will be washing cars at the upper level of the dairy barn to raise money for ASAW’s scholarship fund.  These college funds are made available every year to members, and numerous Knockouts members have been recipients in the past.  Last year, our own Andra won a scholarship to study business at UW-Lacrosse.
