Off to Wisconsin Futurity

Two loads of horses and lots of equipment made their way to The Alliant Energy Center in Madison yesterday for the Wisconsin Futurity Horse Festival, which runs from Thursday thru Sunday.

Jaimie, Shelby, and Emily at Futurity, 2010

This is the one of the oldest Saddlebred shows in Wisconsin, having started at State Fair Park in 1946.  The event features classes for everything from weanlings to gaited horses, and a large turnout is expected this year.

Highlights to look forward to are:

2010 Limited Breeder Stake Winner

Futurity classes

which feature weanlings to 3 year olds.  The Wisconsin Futurity is one of the richest in the country and has paid out over $1.5 million to competitors since 1987.  The finals of the Limited Breeders Stake for Weanlings is 9:00 Sunday morning.  With over $40,000 at stake, it should be a great class to watch!

Syd, Carol, and Cartman

The $1000 National Championship of Pleasure Equitation.

Riders from all over will compete in a preliminary round on Saturday morning at 11, and then on Saturday night at 6:30 for the final.  Pleasure equitation riders will show railwork and patterns, all in front of three judges.  The evening competition will feature members of the Knollwood Knockouts serving as scribes for each of the judges as they complete scoring of the pattern work performed by each competitor.  The Knockouts donated the $1000 scholarship for the event, which was won by Syd last year, with Cori in reserve.

Saturday is also Pink Ribbon Night at the show.

The Knockouts will be selling pink roses to audience members to raise money for breast cancer research.

Please join all the members of  Team Knollwood at the show. There are great classes to watch, whether you’re interested in equitation, young horses, or performances from some of the best horses in the Midwest.  If you’d like to lend a hand to the Knockouts on Saturday night, you can sign up in the school barn lounge, or get in touch with either Nancy or Ann.

Good luck to everyone at the show!  Hope to see you there!
